It's a bit old, and requires PHPMailer to be installed with the plugin.
I didn't try it, but I think it will not work with the latest wp.

I generally see quite a lot of users with email problems on the 
wordpress-hebrew google group.
many users don't get emails from the system after upgrading to 2.2.

personally I got a slightly annoying problem, where the subject line of 
the emails I get from my blog is chopped.
