Of course its an over-simplification of the issue due to lazyness on a 
mailing list, but at the same time its not. Telling someone that the 
templates use "PHP" brings a log of baggage from their own concepts of 
what PHP is. even if you're using the most limited subset of the 
language to get basic templates working its all that other mess that 
people may have run into in the past that makes people more intimidated 
then they maybe ought to be.

But I stand by my other comments that I just don't know that the 
alternative being presented resolves enough of the complexity or 
groking issues without raising a brand new pile of issues that make 
things seem overly complicated when people are tasked with explaining 
how to use WordPress.

Its different in that the system being proposed causes the need to 
reconcile the 2 views on the same thing at various stages in the 
learning process and the accessibility gained up front isn't 
necessarily a zero some game.
