AFAIK you have two options: Make a big deal out of it and get users to donate, or find some other way of getting your hands on the source. That's insane. 7k USD!!!!
I'm in the Middle East, if you guys need someone to do the talking by phone in English or Arabic... but I have a feeling it's going to be hard.
