OK, about this 'going nowhere'

If I write a plugin that will open a plugin file, grab something called
'update uri' from the meta data, access that URI, and see if the versions
match, will you include it in the core?

I'd do it, it's not too hard. But it is 100% useless unless the meta data is
made an official part of WP, and it is used by *all* plugin authors, else
it's just another broken standard.

Is that fair?
