This could be simplified:

1. Overwrite your old files with the new ones, including bundled plugins
2. Load your admin, it should tell you if you need to run a DB upgrade

2.0 -> 2.0.1 doesn't require the whole kit and kaboodle of upgrading, 
most of what you described above was either assumed or precautionary or 
a mistake.
