Does Ping-O-Matic check each pinged site to determine whether it has
really been updated?

If it does, wouldn't your idea generate huge amounst of traffic
(number of WP blogs * average number of links * 24 * 7)?

If it doesn't, wouldn't it list each site as being updated at the same time?

Maybe I'm not understanding your proposal.
