[wp-hackers] Hooking into Comments

I have a GalleryManager plugin that I'm working on and a lot of people
have asked me to add comments to the pictures and the galleries.

I had a look at the WP code but I couldn't find any way to hook into
comments. They seem to be hardwired to posts.

Does anybody know how to use comments for other stuff? I hate reinventing
the wheel.
