[theme-reviewers] Is it necessary to use Core Bundled Masonry?

WordPress core has jquery-masonry bundled with core. But, it is version 2.1.05. Is it neccesary to use that, because the current latest version is 3.1.2. I am not able to achieve the effect I desire using the core's script. Can I use the latest script?
