Choose a different Theme?

The choice to implement a customized site front page via front-page.php is
a design decision, that is left up to the developer. There are certainly
ways to allow for a standard, static page OR a customized template (I take
this approach myself) - but again: that's a design decision, that is left
up to the developer.
