Sami, it's nothing personal. It wasn't "you" per se, I'm talking about a
bigger issue than a few individuals. It's happened on about 10 other
occasions, it would have come up eventually regardless of your email.

The problem is overall (and this doesn't exactly relate to your email so
the following doesn't entirely apply to you, please keep that in mind) is
that others have blatantly contacted me and said something to the effect of
"Hey, off the record..." or "This is off-list, okay?" and then preceded by
(in most cases) going on to say they completely agree with me (regarding
whatever subject it was at the time), and a few nasty emails no doubt.

Frankly, I'm more offended by those agreeing with me (in private) than
those that take a rude tone with me. I'm sorry, but it's complete BS.
Thanks for agreeing with me, but you don't have the nerve to agree
publicly? That's counter-productive to a community and frankly shows a low
class of character if you're afraid to be honest and yes, at times bold.

I don't care whether people agree with me or not or what they think of my
ideas, nor should anyone who intends to speak how they really feel. If I
were in a room with 99 other people and they all said vanilla was their
favorite flavor of ice-cream and mine was actually chocolate, I'm going to
say chocolate, not conform, regardless of the consequences.

I don't know if it's a societal problem in general or if there's this air
of people actually being nervous to say what's on their mind in this
specific community, like there's some scary pressure of "Play nice, or
else..." and people walk on eggshells.

Again, Sami... I'm talking at the situation and to the whole list, not at
you. That's why I never bring up names in these discussions. I'd like to
think I have a more honorable character than to try and get one in on
people for whatever petty reasons. I talk about larger issues as whole that
I feel need addressing, not petty personal squabbles.

If you take the time to read what I'm saying, I'm sure you can find the
clarity and be able to constructively agree or disagree with me. I just
hope if you have something to say you can say it in-list in the community
context and don't have to resolve to pats on the back or snickering when no
one's looking.
