Just for greater clarity in this conversation, there are "links" and
then there are "share buttons". These are not the same thing.

A share button would be like a Facebook Like Button, or the Twitter
Tweet button, or the Google +1 button. These are probably plugin
territory.

A link is, essentially, just a link. You click it, and it goes
somewhere. Those make perfect sense in a theme.
