Okay, I just checked, and it turns out that we're already doing that.

If you set your display name in your support forum profile, then that
is what will be displayed by the "Author:" field in the themes
directory.

The style.css still must have your wordpress.org username for it to
link properly and know who you are, but the displayed name will be
whatever you set to "Display Name" in your profile.
