Same story... if direct links are available on your blog for free, via 
pingback/trackback/comments, they will attrack backlink spammers.

Backlinks are getting harder and harder to acquire legitimately, so this 
problem will only increase as Google continues to reward websites with 
good page rank for high numbers of backlinks.
