Very nice! It'd be really easy to write a function to take care of number 4. With WP 1.3, this whole thing could be done as a plugin only (or at least no modification of core code), what with the new hooks into the admin menu, (I think). I think I'll hold off for now, but I'll definitely be interested in it when WP 1.3 rolls around.
