I don't know if anyone's thought of using one *like* htmlArea, but I 
can take a pretty big self-assured guess that htmlArea in it's current 
incarnation won't go anywhere near the main cvs, as it doesn't seem to 
work outside of IE 5.5+

 From the htmlArea website:

"Go ahead and try out htmlArea. To see htmlArea in a software product, 
take a look at Article Manager (note, you can only see the editor in 
Internet Explorer 5.5+ for Windows)."
