I have to agree: this is a good default setting. Keep in mind, those who 
dislike it, that it is a default. While you may not want to use it 
yourself, that doesn't make it stop being a good default. The question 
isn't "what is the best date format ever", it's "what's the best date 
format to give to users as a default".
