 Hi,

 Thanks for your report @bibblybob I've just tested on a fresh/clean
 install of WordPress Trunk and latest BuddyPress version. I've used a very
 weak password (3 letters) and wasn't able to replicate your issue. I
 believe there's another plugin you're using that is preventing the
 BuddyPress registration process to save the password the user choosed.

 As everything works fine, I'm closing this ticket. If you have more
 details about how to reproduce the issue, don't hesitate to share them and
 reopen the ticket.
