 This is not a good idea. Member type is per site abd as I recall a
 taxonomy which is per blog.

 I and many others have a set up where there is no root blog abs users can
 have different member types on different sites in the Multisite


 If you are goi g to do this it makes more sense to do it on the local
 users.php listing in the backend
