 Another argument to use the second option is that currently, we are
 leaving up to the API consumer to update/format the date, currently in
 GMT, to its correct format (whatever the timezone is). WordPress core
 follows the format of having the site's timezone and a GMT version of the
 date.

 Ideally, we should follow WP core and have a GMT version and one with the
 site's timezone.
