 Hi.
 I think it is not a BuddyPress bug. I changed a bit the code of @danbp
 and now it works fine.
 Please check https://buddypress.org/support/topic/how-to-hide-remove-the-
 general-tab-under-settings/#post-267708 to confirm this.

 WP 4.8.1 and BP 2.9.1
