Comment:

 This is intentional; the front page has extra caching for performance
 reasons. This was added in
 https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/504/sites/trunk/buddypress.org

 I don't imagine it's something we can make appear to update real time due
 to volume of traffic on bp.org mixed with other performance concerns on
 the .org host.
