 I've tested r-a-y's first patch. It's working fine. But i think it can
 bring some confusion as if for instance you add the buddypress-fr_FR.mo at
 the root of {{{WP_LANG_DIR}}} then it will be listed in the available
 '''site''' language.

 If you look at {{{get_available_languages()}}}, you'll see that there is
 no filter available to remove files placed at the root of
 {{{WP_LANG_DIR}}}. So i'm not sure it's the right place to add a custom
 language file to override the one that is placed in
 {{{WP_LANG_DIR}}}/plugins. It seems to me this place is restricted to
 '''site''' language files
