 My patch doesn't take into account the published-to-draft status
 transition so it was never a great approach.

 Your patch got me thinking of all possible eventualities. Aside from
 ''delete'', it seems all of the following status transitions can occur:

 Published - > Future
 Published - > Draft - covered in

 Published - > Private
