 I guess the point is that BuddyPress should be supporting ALL WordPress
 conditionals. If every plugin can change the way you would expect
 wordpress to normally work then chaos could result.

 BuddyPress 1.7.2 declared theme independence…and it has a setting for
 '''Pages'''. If they are 'Pages' then the is_page() should work. If they
 are not 'Pages' then call them something else.
