Comment:

 Ok Buddypress works fine! I just bit the bullet and loaded it onto my
 dreamhost account and had no problems with it. There must be something
 screwy about the MAMP setup. If someone has a chance to figure that out
 and post it that would be useful I do know there are a lot of comments out
 there about this problem. Maybe all of them are form people trying to use
 MAMP to run buddy press.
