 Is this a fresh installation of BuddyPress, or an upgrade from a previous
 version? What version of WP are you using?

 You say "the plugin is not saving my preferences at all". Do you have
 evidence for this, other than the fact that you're being asked to complete
 the wizard? Do you have direct access to your database? If so, try running
 the following query:
