Comment:

 This is actually how it's supposed to work. The idea of the multiblog
 setting is to allow you to create multiple sites with different branding,
 but using the same member data.

 For example it is used on http://profiles.wordpress.org/mikepratt/ and
 http://buddypress.org/developers/mikepratt/

 Both have exactly the same data, but a different design and member URL.
