Comment:

 As mentioned above the docblock for the new _wp_filter_font_directory()
 function seems wrong. This is a private function not intended for use by
 plugins and themes, and as far as I see it is pretty likely it will be
 deprecated and will stop working in WP 6.6.

 Patch coming up.
