 I'd agree it would be worth it to make sure this bug doesn't hapen again,
 maybe for some unintended code formatting change in the future.

 Also, I'd consider to add some inline comments in the code with a
 reference to this ticket?

 as per testing the patch: I'm not sure I can, as it requires specific
 server setups with load balancing.
