Comment:

 I don't think that a new Customizer option would be a good solution.
 - With the change in #48630, developers and advanced users can deque the
 font using a child theme or plugin.
 - The new fonts API does not use the Customizer. Themes can add additional
 custom fonts with a theme.json file, which can also be added with a child
 theme.
