 Thanks @mboynes!

 It really does seem like an NR issue that is causing these caught
 exceptions to still show up in reports. It's easy enough for us to avoid
 in this case, but I would expect there to be other occasions where we
 might want to avoid unnecessary file checks and instead attempt to read a
 file inside a try/catch block like this.
