We need to do away with only supporting Gravatar for WordPress user
profile images.(Random/abitrary! There is no reason to assume that a WP
user/author wants or needs a] a Gravatar account at all, and/or b] to use
the same profile image on their own personal, self-hosted website that
they may want or use on other hosted services that use Gravatar...
 [whatever those services might be].)

As we know, these user profile images are the same images that themes and
page builder plugins use for author images—and IMO rightly so.

''Requiring an abritrarily assigned third party, hosted service to support
a basic core feature (profile images) that has been in use for many years
is not in the spirit of the open source, self-hosted platform that
 WordPress.org is.''

''WordPress website developers, designers and administrators need to be
able to upload (and update) user profile images from within the WordPress
system itself—without needing access to extra accounts or permissions
 (e.g., from clients).''

The good news is that using the built-in WordPress media library for this
 is readily at hand! 🫨

''Workarounds such as plugins or custom code are not acceptable
solutions... In fact, if anything, it should be the other way around
(e.g., a plugin to use Gravatar).''

 **As such, request is:**

**a) At a minimum, to support both Gravatar and media library as
options.** To me, this makes the most sense in the short term in order to
support the tens of people who actually want to keep using Gravatar (being
facetious, what I mean is, so a bunch of websites don't suddenly lose
 their user profile images).

**b) Or just do away with built-in Gravatar support altogether.** I'm sure
the people will recover if this were to be the route.

I hope the sanity of this request shines through any of the murky waters
that may exist when it comes to updating the product accordingly! Thank
you talented and committed people for receiving this FR. 🤗
