 Just a quick note that your original PR https://github.com/WordPress
 /wordpress-develop/pull/5642/files fixed the issue for me.

 I was attempting to filter 'stylesheet' in a plugin, and having an early
 call by ACF to get_stylesheet_directory() defining $wp_stylesheet_path and
 ignoring my filter.
