 Anecdotally this is not my experience, if something in the stack (e.g.
 plugin or host) drops PHP supports, my clients want me to update to the
 _latest_ compatible version so they don't need to do it again for a while.
 I'm sure the hosting team or maybe plugin stats can confirm one way or the
 other.
