 Amazing work so far @spacedmonkey! I left some feedback on the PR and
 there are a few minor iterations to make, but in terms of performance this
 is the highest server response time win I've seen in a single PR so far:
 For block themes (TT3), **`wp-total` is improved by over 30%**! 🎉

 For classic themes, the change doesn't have any impact, which is expected.
 My benchmarks there are just a bit up and down which can be attributed to
 variance.
