 breaking backward compatibility. We can't do the reverse though. So
 decisions for ''adding'' something should be based on actual use-cases
 present.

 I share Felix's view that `any` isn't necessarily needed at this point.

 @azaozz how strongly do you feel about this? You're the 6.3 tech lead, so
 it's your call.
