 I just encountered this problem (don't use private pages a lot)!

 In addition to the limitations everyone has mentioned about the "Parent
 Page" in the editor (both GB and Classic) and Quick Edit, private pages
 also do **not** show when creating a link (both GB and Classic). Sorry if
 this has been mentioned before...there's a lot of history to read through
 in a 14 year old ticket, and I may have missed it :-)
