 I can understand how the proposed name ({{{$allowed_comments}}}) may be
 confusing in the context of other similarly named. Would
 $preserve_comments be more appropriate?

 @azaozz is {{{wp_strip_all_tags()}}} functionally equivalent to a (fixed)
 {{{wp_filter_nohtml_kses()}}} as modified here? I'm guessing not, but if
 not, what are the differences?

 Or, if the two are functionally equivalent then I'd suggest we need a new
 ticket to deprecate one of them in favour of the preferred option?
