 The patch has been updated with @desrosj feedback including using
 `empty()` to resolve the fatal error @robinwpdeveloper and @mahbubshovan
 caught (thank you!).

 @robinwpdeveloper @ironprogrammer this is ready for another round of
 testing, if you have time.
