 @dmsnell Thank you for the detailed testing instructions and feedback. I
 gave this a test as well, and it works great.

 It's an amazing performance win as well, since in modern browsers this
 means avoiding the emoji support polyfill load. Even on a production site
 with the minified `wp-emoji-release.min.js` file, that means avoiding 4.7
 KB of extra JS. 👍
