 I'm wondering if there is a reason why the text of menu items **without**
 children is wrapped with a <span> as follows..

 {{{
 <span class="wp-block-navigation-item__label">Menu Item Text</span>
 }}}

 ..but if an item has a child, then this span is "missing".

 Wouldn't it be more consistent to wrap the text of menu items equally?
