 Given that the new code is having to dynamically rebuild the full file
 path from the stored relative paths — in order to avoid the reported bug —
 a performance regression makes sense to me.

 I'm willing to be wrong here, but I feel like a comparison of the
 benchmarks for WP 6.2.2 and WP 6.3.x (with this PR) is perhaps a fairer
 indication of if anything is actually regressing.
