Comment:

 Apple never confirmed that they could reproduce this issue, or that they'd
 fixed it.

 It'd be worth testing to see if this still occurs on modern versions of
 Safari.

 Either way at this point, I'd be inclined to close this issue, as Apple
 has never provided information on exactly what triggers reader mode.
 Whilst there are various hacky workarounds documented around the internet,
 there's nothing reliable enough that I'd want to push it into Twenty
 Nineteen.
