 WebP was specifically designed to be a magic bullet that can represent any
 image. It has two different modes: WebP Lossy (which you are describing)
 and WebP Lossless which solves most of the issues you are bringing up.

 I'd guess that your editor has a section somewhere that lets you choose
 between the two modes.

 WebP definetely has certain issues, but not the ones you are mentioning
 here.
