 That's awesome @Joen the patch is looking great.

 As to the full removal of the font, I do wonder if plugins/themes used it
 and as such we should deprecate instead of remove. See the
 [https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/blob/master/src/wp-
 includes/script-loader.php#L1463 Open Sans deprecation];
 `$styles->add( 'open-sans', $open_sans_font_url ); // No longer used in
 core as of 4.6.`

 I'll let someone with more knowledge on that chime in before we do
 anything further.
