 I am currently implementing option 2 "a section in the dashboard that does
 not disappear until it is confirmed or updated, medium invasive", using
 the Dashboard Widgets API and provide a simple form in a widget where the
 user can confirm the email or change it. I will save as a site option the
 timeout so we don't check with the user again for X amount of time.
