 @timhibberd :

 Based on the error messages , specifically the SyntaxError, it seems to me
 that the server is sending an incomplete JavaScript file. Could you try
 sending several requests to `/wp-includes/js/dist/editor.js` directly to
 see if the server sends with an identical response each time? Perhaps
 there is a timeout which is being reached, at which point the server is
 bailing?
