 Hi @postphotos,

Thanks for the excellent write up, and thinking that's gone into this. I'm
in support of the goals to improve the the media modal and library UI to
make it easier to save video captions along with video files and to clear
up the ambiguity between the current usage of the word "caption" as it
applies to videos and the kind of video captioning that is produced by
 uploading SRT files.

I do have a few questions:

First, based on your description and screenshots, my understanding is that
you're describing two separate tasks with this ticket: 1) making the use
of the word "caption" less ambiguous when editing video data, and 2)
making it easier to add video captioning (i.e., SRT files) globally to
videos in the media library. However, the patch here only deals with the
former. Is your intent to limit this ticket to dealing with the former and
accomplishing the latter in #31177, or did are you hoping to iterate on
your current approach to cover both tasks here? Either is ok, I just want
to make sure I'm following your thinking properly.

Additionally, I'm curious why you chose to use the terms "media
description" and "media caption" for videos, rather than "video
description/caption," which would be consistent with your choice of "image
description/caption"? I'd also be interested in getting some user testing
on these changes to see if the proposed labels really do help people have
a better understanding of what those fields are for. It may be good to get
some UX feedback on these labels.

The patch looks correct to me except for one small mistake—you've got two
labels using the string "Media Description" in `wp-includes/media-
template.php`. I think you meant for the second one to be "Longer
 Description".

Overall, really great job putting this together. Thanks again!
