 Hey!

 So the Preferred Languages plugin has been available on WordPress.org for
 quite some time: https://wordpress.org/plugins/preferred-languages/. I
 don't know why I never mentioned it here in the ticket though.

 I published the last update in October but have yet to announce its
 availability on make/core ([https://make.wordpress.org/core/2017/05/20
 /preferred-languages-the-prototype/ the last post] is from May 2017).
 There are a few bugs I'd like to resolve / wrap my head around first
 though, but I don't have time until next month.

 There are some great ideas being shared here, everything from manual to
 automatic fallbacks. I see the biggest potential for this going into core
 in the manual way though. That's why I developed this plugin as a proof-
 of-concept.

 I'd be happy to lead another meeting in #core-i18n in February to discuss
 the status quo.

 In the meantime, if you want to test the Preferred Languages plugin,
 please go ahead and report any issues on GitHub. Any help is highly
 appreciated!
