 @jordanwebdev welcome to Trac! I've just tried to reproduce this with no
 luck. I get a clean link without any `target` attribute. Does it still
 happen with all plugins disabled and a default theme (for example Twenty
 Seventeen or Twenty Sixteen) activated?
